为什么我们很难做到独立思考呢？因为，独立思考这件事情，远比我们想象中要难。首先，独立思考是反人性、反直觉的。我们谈结构化思维，因为它能帮我们理清思路，让我们沟通和表达更顺，非常符合大脑的思维习惯。然而，独立思考本质上是一种批判性思维，而批判性思维本身就是对思维展开的思维，目的是去考量我们自己（或者他人）的思维是否符合逻辑、是否符合好的标准，它是违背我们下意识的思维方式的。其次，独立思考的结果常常是让人难过的。爱笑的女孩运气不会太差；有钱的人往往不快乐；30 岁之前必做十件事；他很忙，因为他不够爱你……这些结论根本无需独立思考就能判断，然而却非常受欢迎。因为它满足了很多人的急切心理：人生这么复杂，如果能用一句话、一篇文章概括，那该多好。连武侠小说也是这样才能让我们嗨，苦练几十年的人最后只能是配角，而主角年纪轻轻，只需掉下山崖、遇到高人、拿到秘籍就天下无敌了。我们都在追求那个秘籍。可是，倘若我们真的对这些结论、这些文章进行批判性思考了，秘籍就不再是秘籍了，岂不让我们失望透顶？最后，我们受教育所限。我们从小所受的教育，目的都在于让我们记住 " 结论 "，至于论证是不是完整，这是无需讨论，甚至也是不可讨论的。在我们还没观过世界之前，就被植入了大量的世界观。比如，我们在上学的时候，都会有自己的烦恼：觉得自己不够漂亮 / 帅，想买喜欢的东西却没钱，喜欢的人不喜欢自己，人缘不够好，对学的东西没兴趣，对选的专业不满意……这时候，父母和学校会来告诉你：不要多想，你只管好好学习，考上重点大学，找到好的工作，一切都会好起来的。但是，当我们长大以后，发现世界完全不是这样运转的，老师和家长并不都是对的。心中的信念轰然倒塌的那一刻，我们终于开始反思：学校、家长、社会、媒体，他们传递给我的信息，都是对的吗？在此教育体制下长大的我们，几乎所有人的成长都离不开这样的过程：刺激（外界的刺激摧毁我们的固有观念）、怀疑（怀疑自己小时候被灌输了权威思想）、解构（过去的思维方式和观念终于被打破）、重建（吸收新的信息，见识更大的世界，重建思维和观念）。
