A suicide bomber was shot dead by Afghan police forces in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan on Sunday, local officials said.
Provincial police spokesman, Farid Ahmad Obaid said the suicide bomber was looking to attack a police check post before he was shot dead by police.
Obaid further added that the bomber was recognized and shot dead on Sunday afternoon in Marjah district.
In the meantime, another individual was shot dead by police forces on suspicion of suicide attack in eastern Khost province of Afghanistan on Saturday.
Conflicting reports suggest that the slain individual was an ordinary civilian and was mistakenly shot dead by police forces.
The local government officials have not commented regarding the incident.
Both Helmand and Khost provinces are among the volatile provinces where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in its various districts.

TWEETEMAILMOREISTANBUL, Turkey — The suicide bomber who attacked the U.S. Embassy on Friday in the Turkish capital of Ankara, killing one Turkish security guard along with the bomber, was a member of an outlawed leftist group, the Turkish government said. The explosion went off at the entrance used by embassy personnel and their visitors, after a lone suicide bomber passed through the X-ray machine, Turkish news media reported.RECENT ATTACKS:News reports said that there is no damage inside the embassy and that all personnel have been moved to safe rooms inside the building. Turkish television footage showed a door blown out and pieces of the wall around it scattered in front of the entrance.Turkish Interior Minister Muammer Güler told reporters that the attacker was Ecevit Sanli, a member of an outlawed leftist group that news media reported as being the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C). The suspect in the attack spent eight months in prison for attending illegal demonstrations, Turkish news media said.Early Saturday, AP reported that a Turkish official said the suspect spent four years in prison on terrorism charges before being released for a brain disorder.Turkish police in the past week arrested 55 leftists of various stripes including members of DHKP/C, an anti-American Marxist group that had attacked Americans in the past."If the suicide bomber was DHKP/C, this could be retaliation for these arrests," said Ross Wilson, a former U.S. ambassador to Turkey who now heads the Eurasia program at the Atlantic Council.Turkish counterterrorism authorities have gone after DHKP/C aggressively in past years, which is part of the reason the group has been marginalized, Wilson said. DHKP/C opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq during the first Gulf War. It also took responsibility for the murders of at least two Americans working in Turkey in 1991.The victims were retired U.S. Air Force officer John Gandy, who was shot to death in his insurance office, and Bobbie Eugene Mozelle of Detroit, a civilian working at a U .S.-Turkish air base in southern Turkey. The Turkish government did not say whether the suspect may have also been involved with other terrorist groups, such as affiliates of al-Qaeda.The Turkish daily newspaper Sabah posted a shaky video that was taken at the Ankara U.. embassy shortly before the area was closed off, showing Turkish police officials angrily asking that filming be stopped. Police said they suspected a second bomb, which is why they blocked off the area.
Vice President Joe Biden says there are few details about the Friday morning blast at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.
While in Munich, Biden acknowledged the counter terrorism cooperation between U.S. and Germany.
APThe Vatan newspaper, whose reporter witnessed the explosion, said the blast was severe and damaged the surrounding buildings and cars nearby.Turkey's foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, expressed his sorrow."I am offering my condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives, and my best wishes to everyone at the American Embassy and the foreign ministry," he said. "Our whole security apparatus is working full force on finding the ones responsible for this attack, and we are hoping to clarify the matter shortly."The attack destroyed the entrance to the embassy building, he said, adding that the force of the explosion left body parts strewn around the scene. Didem Tuncay, a 38-year-old former broadcast journalist, was seriously injured in the attack, Güler said.Turkey, a member of NATO, has come under attack from a number of groups operating on its territory including Kurdish separatists, leftists and Islamist terrorists, with the last major attack in Ankara in 2007 blamed on a solo suicide bomber: It killed nine people and injured 120.Contributing: Yasemin Ergin in H Oren Dorell in Washington, D.C.

Suicide bomber kills 40 in Pakistan
(Agencies)
PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- A bomber blew himself up Sunday among thousands of tribal members discussing resistance to al-Qaida and the Taliban, killing 40 people in the third suicide attack in as many days in northwestern Pakistan.
The rash of suicide bombings show President Pervez Musharraf's weakening control of the region despite the deployment of thousands of troops to crush Islamic militants.

Five tribes were meeting to finalize a resolution that would punish anyone who shelters or helps Islamic militants, including al-Qaida and Taliban fighters, Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said.
A young man walked up to a group of elders and detonated his explosives, said Alam Khan, a tribesman at the meeting in Darra Adam Khel, a town in North West Frontier Province about 25 miles south of the provincial capital, Peshawar.
"It was a huge explosion and left body parts and blood scattered on the ground," said Ramin Khan, another participant whose left leg and face were injured. He and others hurt in the attack were brought to a hospital in Peshawar.
Dr. Hamid Afridy, the area's chief medical officer, said he counted 40 bodies and more than 100 injured were sent to the hospital. He said many were in critical condition and feared the death toll could rise.
Television footage showed blood, shoes and caps littering the bombing site -- a tree-lined ground surrounded by wheat fields and only yards away from brick homes.
Musharraf called the bombing an attempt to sabotage tribal efforts to rid the region of militant influence and reiterated the government's "resolve and commitment" in the fight against terrorism.
The attack came two days after a suicide bomber struck at the funeral of a slain police officer in Mingora town in Swat Valley, killing more than 40 people and injuring at least 60. On Saturday, another suicide bombing in nearby Bajur killed one person and wounded 19 others, mostly security personnel.
Friday's bombing was the bloodiest attack in the Swat Valley since militant followers of a pro-Taliban cleric, Maulana Fazlullah, grabbed control of large parts of the scenic corner of Pakistan's restive northwest.
The army says it has retaken most of Swat since Musharraf sent thousands of troops in November, but attacks persist and Fazlullah remains at large.
