平阳退休干部杜臣泉爱心资助19名失学儿童
浙江在线12月17日讯
今年75岁的退休干部杜臣泉是温州市平阳县宋桥镇瑞阳村人，每月退休金1000多元。但从2001年以来，杜臣泉先后资助了平阳、文成、泰顺等地的19名失学儿童，共出资5万多元。
　　今年6月，杜臣泉因其善举入选平阳县“十佳公益之星”。前天，平阳县委宣传部，宋桥镇委、镇政府向“2007?感动温州十大人物”评选活动组委会推荐了这位年逾古稀的老人。
　　杜臣泉的屋里很简陋，摆放着一张已经使用了几十年的老式旧沙发，平时用的茶杯还破了个口。与19名失学儿童结对后，杜臣泉就戒了酒，抽的烟也从过去的5元一包改成3元一包。6年来，杜臣泉夫妇吃的大多是在自家院子种的蔬菜。
　　6年来，老人每年都坚持携带衣物登门看望孩子们，鼓励他们珍惜难得的学习机会。资助对象陈爱弟的老师、文成县平和乡中心小学陈荣全感叹道：“10多公里山路，老人每年都要来一趟，不容易啊！”
　　平阳县怀溪中心小学教导处主任林冬梅说，结对生曾茜茜每次见到杜臣泉老人就亲切地喊“杜爷爷”，那个场景令她难以忘怀。
　　“如果没有杜爷爷，我早就辍学了。”泰顺县罗阳二中学生陈慧玲说。陈慧玲从小学三年级开始接受杜臣泉资助，如今家境稍有起色，决定谢绝资助，陈慧玲的姑父动情地说，“长期拿老人的退休金读书，心里不安啊”。
　　接受资助的其他孩子，也因不忍心杜臣泉长期用退休金进行资助，目前已相继与他中断结对。杜臣泉表示，“只要还走得动，明年将继续寻找助学对象”。
　　温州市教育局人民教育基金会办公室主任李康和获悉老人事迹后动情地说，近年来温州市通过各方努力，已做到不让一名儿童失学，“成绩的背后，离不开杜臣泉老人这样的热心人士支持” 。
