型呼吸衰竭 是缺氧伴二氧化碳潴留，二氧化碳排出减少，保持呼吸运动的正常进行。因此要持续低流量吸氧，呼吸的维持主要依靠缺氧对外周化学感受器的刺激，更加重二氧化碳的潴留、变慢，出现呼吸性酸中毒和肺性脑病，降低对外周化学感受器的刺激。吸高流量氧气使血氧分压升高，反射性兴奋呼吸中枢，使呼吸变浅
二型呼吸衰竭的定义是氧分压低于60MMHg,二氧化碳浓度高于50MMHg,正常二氧化碳浓度可以刺激呼吸中枢，高浓度二氧化碳会抑制呼吸中枢，如果这个时候，高流量吸氧的话，呼吸中枢得不到刺激，就不能完成呼吸运动，导致呼吸停止，低流量吸氧就是为了刺激呼吸中枢，防止呼吸抑制
防止氧浓度上升，抑制呼吸
