　　2、注意肿块的大小。肿块若呈弥漫性肿大或多发性结节性肿大，多为地方性甲状腺肿大;一般良性肿瘤或囊肿的单个结节直径多在2厘米左右;直径超过2厘米时，应疑为甲状腺癌。 3、注意肿块的光滑度和软硬度。用拇指及食指仔细触摸肿块表面。表面光滑一致者，多为地方性甲状腺肿大;表面不很光滑者，由甲状腺炎的可能性大;呈单个结节肿大，但表面光滑、均匀者可能为腺瘤;单个结节肿大，表现不光滑，呈实体感者，应疑为癌肿。
　　4、注意肿块的生长速度。地方性甲状腺肿大呈缓慢增大，病程可达数年乃至数十年之久;良性肿瘤及囊肿病程可为数月至数年;甲状腺癌的肿块增长明显，速度较快，可在十几天或一、二个月内明显增大。
　　5、注意肿块周围是否可触及淋巴结。若在甲状腺周围颈部能触摸到质地较硬的淋巴结，则应高度怀疑是甲状腺伴有局部淋巴结转移。
